We went on Sat 6/26 11 am boat tour. Loved it. Submitted our questionnaires. Just thought of one thing, now that I’ve talked to neighbors who didn’t go on the trip — many didn’t go because they were afraid of the heat and the exposure. My group was lucky because we got seats under the canopy, otherwise it might have been unbearable in the sun and high humidity (even half under canopy my friend got burned knees and feet). So you might want to consider having tours in spring and fall, or, if possible, to provide canopy on whole boat? Morning people said they had no canopy at all and it was frightfully hot even in morning. Just a thought!
Comment by Linda Lobdell June 30, 2010 @ 3:42 pmDamon, what a fine trip it was along the Passaic. I had no idea that you were teaming with the Hackensack River Keeper Bob Smith and his associate Hugh Carolla, who gave me my first experience with the tour on that river! Each of the three of you were on target. I couldn’t have had a better introduction to Newark along the Passaic.
I write now in order to repeat a few topics that I am eager to talk about with you:
1. The upcoming Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation’s Poetry Festival in Nwk. There’s no reason why at least one event can’t take place on board, if not during the Festival then at some other date. Imagine a poetry writing workshop on board. I know lots of poets who can draw writers and make it happen. (Our neighbors at WBGO would be interested in mounting a joint event, too; I’ll put you in touch with one of its poet-DJs. We’ll talk.
2. The osprey tower/nest — a possible joint undertaking by adults, perhaps at PSE&G, and school aged children. We’ll talk.
3. Internships for high school and college aged graduates of the Wight Foundation’s Nwk-based STEP program. Employers often do not pay anything; kids are financed by other agencies, including the Wight Foundation. We’ll talk.
Please call me on my cell: 973-699-1133 or at the Wight Foundation: 973-824-1195. Our secretary Corina or whoever else answers the phone will call me to it or otherwise leave a message for me.
Again I thank you for the experience on the Passaic. As a man whose childhood was LITERALLY spent in and on the river, — in my case, The Delaware, — I was happy to be out on the water again. Some sea and landscapes, no matter in what cities or towns, have such a lot in common!
Sincerely,
Frank Niccoletti
